Ever heard the term “Leaders are Readers”?
The phrase originated with President Harry S. Truman and I have certainly found that to be true. Some of the most well-known business leaders focus a large percentage of their time devouring every bit of knowledge that they can to improve themselves and their business.
Leaders like Warren Buffet and Bill Gates have read an extraordinary amount and have specific goals to maintain their level of reading. Warren Buffet once said in an interview “Read 500 pages like this every day. That’s how knowledge works. It builds up, like compound interest. All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will do it.” The habit of reading is an important one to develop to grow yourself and your business.
Do you read? A lot? I do. At any one time I have 3-5 going at once. My favorite thing is a good book with my morning coffee or relaxing in the evening to wind down before bed.
Do you have reading goals? Goals to improve your mind and your business? I devour books and business podcasts and sometimes the podcasts point me back to another book. There are so many opportunities to advance your own education just through reading.
I challenge you. Grow yourself. Least expensive education ever. There is GOLD in books. There is no doubt in my mind that “not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers”.
You can do it. Even if you haven’t picked up a book since high school English. It is a crazy statistic from 2019 that a fourth of Americans hadn’t read a book in the previous year (maybe the statistic isn’t as abysmal after Covid?).
This week grab one that peaks your interest or specifically promises to give answers to your current challenges.
Here soon I will fill you in on some of my favorites…
